Easy (and totally realistic) steps to a healthier you this springdmdgladmin
Spring has finally sprung! As the holiday season gets tantalisingly closer, it’s time to ditch some of those bad habits and spring into health. Sometimes no matter how much we want to make healthier choices, there simply aren’t enough hours in a day. Luckily, we’ve got some easy peasy ways to get you summer ready and feeling fab in no time…
Take a walk
We spend a lot of time at our desks in front of a computer. Add to that the time spent in traffic or public transport and it all adds up to hours and hours of being inactive. Sneak in some exercise to your workday by typing an email or two while standing, taking the stairs, or parking a little further away from the office than usual. All those extra steps add up and you can track them with a nifty FitBit to help keep you motivated.
Get lunch box savvy
Preparing and packing lunch can feel labour intensive after a long day at the office, but it can help you save money and make healthier choices. Get creative with simple creations like wraps, salads, and home-made stir frys, which can all be made in bulk and enjoyed all week!
Top up your snack drawer
Sudden deadlines and last minute meetings sometimes means there’s no time for that healthy lunch you planned. If grabbing a diet smoothie isn’t on the menu, having an emergency snack supply means you’ll be less tempted to indulge in that extra cheesy pizza later on. Top up your snack drawer with dried fruit, muesli bars, trail mix, and a little bit of biltong.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away and so does drinking eight glasses of water. Your body depends on water to survive and even helps you stay focused and energised throughout the day. Keep a water bottle close at hand and if you need a nudge in the right direction you can download an app for your phone or desktop to remind you to take a sip.
Unplug your tech
Between emails, WhatsApp messages and social media notifications it’s hard to switch off. Scrolling through social media before bed can actually make it harder to fall asleep thanks to the blue light emitted by most digital devices. Get a better night’s sleep by turning off your phone or keeping it away from reach. Instagram will still be there in the morning.
