The future is female this Women’s Monthdmdgladmin
This August South Africa commemorates Women’s Month as a tribute to the 20,000 women from all walks of life who joined together in a historic march to the Union Buildings in 1956.
Fast forward to 2018 and there are dozens of ways you can celebrate this important occasion. Here are some of our favourites:
- Support a worthy cause
There are so many wonderful organisations and charities that do incredible work aimed at empowering women. If you have some free time consider lending a helping hand by volunteering or making a cash donation. Every little bit helps to make a difference.
- Grab a book and get inspired
When last did you get cosy under a blanket with a good book? There are (literally) hundreds of fantastic biographies of inspiring women to choose from including ‘Mom & Me & Mom’ by Maya Angelou, ‘Own It’ by Oprah Winfrey, and ‘I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban’ by Malala Yousafza.
- Celebrate the women in your life
Thank the awesome women in your own life with a compliment, a letter, or a small token of your appreciation. Think of your mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, colleague, best friend, and daughter – or any woman who inspires and encourages you to be better and do better.
- Be kind to yourself and your body
This is one to keep in mind all year round but this month is the perfect time to try something new that will help you feel strong. Whether it’s Zumba, karate, or our very own Polokwane 5km Parkrun, exercise will lift your spirits and leave you feeling ready to take on the world.
- Watch chick flicks and chill
Get your girlfriends together on a comfy couch and remind yourselves that women really do rock. A few of our top choices include Thelma and Louise, Legally Blonde, The Devil Wears Prada, The First Wives Club and Erin Brockovich. Just make sure you have plenty tissues at the ready for Thelma and Louise.
- Take yourself and your girls on a date
Spoil yourself and your besties by going on a lunch date, getting a manicure, and indulging in some well-deserved retail therapy. Mall of the North has all you need and more for a memorable day out with your favouriteladies.
- Lift up the women around you
Because we are stronger when we all work together.
